教学目标和要求:
本课程是大学生的一门必修的基础课程和学位课,主要是为修完中学英语进入大学阶段学习的学生开设的。它是以英语语言知识与应用技能、学习策略和跨文化交际为主要内容,以外语教学理论为指导,集多种教学模式和教学手段为一体的教学体系。
本课程的教学目的就是通过学习,培养学生的英语综合应用能力,特别是听说能力,使他们在今后工作和社会交往中能用英语有效地进行口头和书面的信息交流,同时增强其自主学习能力,提高综合文化素养,以适应我国社会发展和国际交流的需要。具体教学目标如下:
1、词汇:掌握的词汇量应达到3100个单词和500个词组(含中学应掌握的词汇),其中1600个单词为积极词汇,即要求学生能够在认知的基础上学会熟练运用,包括口头和书面表达两个方面。
2、语法:巩固和加深基本语法知识,提高在语篇水平上运用语法知识的能力。
3、听力理解能力::能听懂英语讲课及简短会话和谈话,抓住中心大意和要点 。对题材熟悉、句子结构简单、基本上没生词、语速每分钟为120词的听力材料,1遍可以听懂,理解准确率以70%为合格。
4、口语表达能力:学会基本的课堂用语和日常用语,能用英语提问并回答教师就课文提出的问题;能就教材内容及熟悉的话题进行小组讨论,并作简短的发言,表达思想较清楚,语音、语调基本正确。
5、阅读理解能力:运用基本的阅读技能以及词汇和语法结构,能读懂语言难度一般的普通题材的文章,正确理解与课文难度相仿的文章,掌握中心大意以及说明中心大意的事实和细节,一般阅读速度达到每分钟70词。在阅读篇幅较长、难度略低、生词不超过总词数3%的材料时,能掌握中心大意。抓住主要事实和有关细节,阅读速度达到每分钟90词。
6、书面表达能力:书面表达能力:能根据所学课文做笔记、回答问题、完成提纲和填写表格,能就所学内容在半小时内写出100词左右的短文。内容比较连贯,语法基本正确。
7、翻译能力:能翻译难度低于课文的英语文章,理解正确,译文基本达意,译速每小时250英语词。能译出句子结构比较简单的汉语,译文达意,基本无重大语言错误,译速每小时200汉字。
 
教学内容和进度:
本学期周课时为4课时,总课时为68学时,根据南师大安排共需完成七个单元(Units 1,3,4,6,8,9,10)的教学。由于考试覆盖整册10个单元,所以建议老师们如有可能可以处理全部的十个单元,每个单元大约只有6课时的时间,包括教授每个单元的Section A,Section B。相关配套的听说、泛读、快速阅读的内容作为学生自主学习材料,老师最好平时加强对学生的检查和监督。

通过本单元的学习,使学生掌握文中的目标词和短语,熟悉本文的篇章结构,了解利用网络自学、自我教育的方法和感受,重点是远程英语教学的感受,网络学习的方法,利用网络自学的利弊等,从而扩展英语学习的方法,认识自我学习、自我教育的重要性,增强学习的信心和乐趣。

(2) 领会:not only…but also的倒装用法;It is/was critical that…句型中,that 从句用should do形式;根据上下文猜词义的阅读方法。

(2) 领会:account for的用法; do the trick的用法;理解谚语和俗语表达的阅读方法。
(3) 综合应用:利用本单元所学单词、短语及语法和句型结构使学生能够听懂、读懂、看懂与本单元主题相关的背景知识,并就与诚实与欺骗的有关话题进行个人发言、小组讨论和书面表达,能够较准确翻译一般的句子和段落。
 
 
考试安排、内容和题型:
期中考试安排在第十一周,内容为《新视野大学英语》(Book I)的一至五单元;期末考试安排在第二十周,内容为《新视野大学英语》(Book I)的五至十单元。期中、期末考试的题型及分值如下:
I Listening Comprehension(每小题1分,共20分)
Section A (10 short conversations)
Section B (3 short passages)
这部分的题目可以部分使用配套听力材料中的内容,但必须对题目及题干做些调整变动,以防止有的学生记背答案。
II Reading Comprehension(每小题1.5分,共30分)
4 passages, 其中一至两篇为《泛读》或《快速阅读》中的一篇(期中为一至五单元中的,期末为六至十单元中的一篇),以检查督促学生课后的泛读做了没有。
III Multiple Choice(每小题1分,共20分)
选择题必须出在教学内容内,且均匀分布在每单元每篇课文中。
IV Cloze(每小题0.5分,共10分)
可以出课外的内容也可根据书本内容自编,共二十个空,每空0.5分。
V Translate the following Chinese into English.(每小题2分,共10分)
可选用书后练习中的句子翻译,也可自己出些句子,但一定要用到考试范围内的我们教过的句型和词组。
VI Writing10分)
最好根据我们上课的课文内容自己出作文题,而不是随意地从四、六级考题中找题目,这样每个学生可以做到有话可说。
总之,我们命题的一个原则是:我们教什么就考什么,学生课堂上学了什么我们就检测什么。让每个学生做到心中有数,该怎么学,复习时该怎么复习。
 
成绩评定的方法:
学年总评 = 30%(平时分) + 30%(期中考试成绩) + 40%(期末考试成绩)
平时成绩 = 出勤 + 平时作业 + 单元测验成绩(有时间的话,最好安排以督促学生及时对每单元内容做好梳理工作)
 
统一的书面作业和课外活动:
书面作业: 每单元后配套的练习。
课外作业(推荐):
Unit 1:
Go on line, and try to find three useful English Learning websites. Then share your findings with your classmates, and explain why you choose those websites to recommend.
Unit 2:
It is obvious that a good communication can bridge the generation gap. Why not conduct a nice talk, through the phone, letters, e-mails, or face to face, with your parents?
Unit 3:
Fly your imagination and talent of art to make a card for Father’s Day, and write on the card something like 30 words of appreciation or love. Display your card in class
Unit 4:
Suppose you won the first prize in the recent English speech competition. Give a mini-speech of 50 seconds before the class to thank those who offered help. Use body language to help express when necessary.
Unit 5:
Acquire more knowledge of AIDS and write a report on the topic: How to protect yourself from being trapped into HIV.
Compare the Situation of AIDS in China with that in America.
Unit 6:
Have you ever taken notice of the campus cleaners around you? Now, interview at least three campus cleaners about their lives, covering their routine work, pay, treatment, and their attitudes to the job. (Work in groups, either recorded or paper work welcomed, DV most welcomed. A representative from each group is to give presentation in class)
Unit 7:
1.Adapt the story “Face to Face with Guns” into the play and act on it in class.  
Note:  1. Use original dialogues and add new necessary ones.
       2. Cover the major plots.
       3. Make full use of monologue(独白) or voice-over(旁白) and stage property(道具).
2. Now that robbery is not predictable, whether indoors or outdoors,  in daylight or at night, what measures can we take to prevent it ? What if it is a robbery with guns?
3.The text “Should I Have a Gun?” reveals the complex feelings of an American woman:  anger,  anxiety,  fear,  fright,  scare,  disgust,  shame and guilt. She advocates gun control but owns a loaded gun. What about you?
4.Collect More Information about Gun Control
Unit 8:
Each group prepares a story about the invention of an object or a famous scientist who solved difficult scientific problems. (The stories are supposed to be presented through PowerPoint. Use related pictures to make your storytelling vivid.)
Unit 9:
Investigation: Speak to top students and their professors. Investigate the mysterious causes of their greatness. Make a report on the tips that anyone can use to awaken the greatness
within himself and become an A student.
Unit 10:
Work in groups and make a collection of English famous sayings and stories about honesty and share them with your classmates by sending
emails to each other.
 
课外活动(推荐):
1.参加由外教主持的英语沙龙;
2.利用课间休息时间让学生欣赏上届学生英文歌曲ppt优秀作品,并酝酿做一首自己最喜欢的英语歌曲ppt;
3.让学生自选话题做一个三分钟演讲,按学号进行并记分,在所有学生进行完一轮后各班评选出最佳展示奖10名;
4.发动学生积极参加由我院外语系主办的英语演讲比赛。
